DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FSSAI REGISTRATION AND FSSAI LICENSE

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an association that directs the food business in India. It is a self-governing organization which is recognized under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It certifies the food products go through quality checks thereby shortening the food adulteration and sale of sub-standard products.

WHY FSSAI REGISTRATION REQUIRED?

Every food business worker involved in the manufacturing, handling, storage delivery and sale of food products mandatory require FSSAI Registration or License.

FSSAI Registration is different from FSSAI License subject to the size and nature of the business, FBO should attain the compulsory registration or license to control the quality of food products

It is a 14-digit registration or a license number which is published on all the food packages. FSSAI registration is to generate more legal responsibility and accountability on the FBO to preserve the quality of the food products.

FSSAI registration or license depends on the business capacity and locations, or income, applicant premises are authorized for the license such as basic license, central license, and state license.

REQUIREMENT FOR FSSAI REGISTRATION

All the Food operators who are involved in the small food business and the annual turnover not more than Rupees 12 lakh need to obtain the FSSAI basic registration.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING FSSAI REGISTRATION

1. FSSAI registration is commenced by submitting Form A to the Department.
2. This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within stipulated time period from the date of receipt of an application and the rejection has to be intimated to the applicant in writing.
3. The FSSAI department will grant the fssai certificate after the application accepted by the department along with the FSSAI registration number and the photo.
4. FBO should importantly display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.
5. Documents required for Basic, State and Central Registration are photos, ID proof.  

REQUIREMENT FOR FSSAI LICENSE

Other than small business all Food Business Operator mandatory required FSSAI license has to be obtained. FSSAI License categorized into two categories i.e. State FSSAI License and Central FSSAI License.

Food Business Operators who are dealing with large manufactures, trading, importers, and exporters in large scale business mandatory required to obtain the FSSAI license from Central Government. For obtaining food central license the food business operator must have turnover of more than Rupee twenty Crore and needs to have operations in two or more states. Along with all the Importer and Exporters FBO are also required to submit an application for the central license for obtaining the fssai license.

All the Food Business Operators with small to medium sized need to take FSSAI license from the state government. And the Income should be between 12 lakh to 20 crores to obtain the FSSAI state license. The maximum tenure for the FSSAI registration and the FSSAI license is 5 years and minimum is 1 year.

• Form B duly completed and signed
• Area wise processing unit plan
• List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor
• Name of machinery with full capacity details
• List of food category to be manufactured
• Authority letter from technical person along with the ID proofs.
• Water testing report
• Recall plan wherever applicable
• Ministry of Commerce Certificate for 100% EOU
• NOC/PA document issued by FSSAI
• IE code document issued by DGFT
• Form IX
• Certificate from Ministry of Tourism
• Proof of possession of premises
• Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship
• Manufacturer License and No objection certificate
• Food safety management system plan or certificate
• NOC from the municipality or local body
• Proof of turnover
• Declaration form

• Plan of the processing unit
• List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor
• Name of machinery with full capacity details
• List of food category to be manufactured
• Authority letter from technical person along with the ID proofs

• Premises proof
• Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship
• Manufacturer License and No objection certificate
• Food safety management system plan or certificate
