Myths About Fssai Registration

I am not a food manufacturer, I don’t need an FSSAI Registration.

Fssai Licence not mandatory for Trader?

FSSAI license is mandatory before starting any food business. All the manufacturers, traders, restaurants who are involved in food business must obtain a 14-digit registration or a license number which must be printed on food packages.

Importer or exporter do not need a FSSAI License as they have IEC license?

Most of the people think that if they have an import/export license, then they can import food products as well; however, this is not true. If there is any food product imported to India, for this you need to have an IEC (Import Export license) and further you have to obtain an FSSAI central license.

During the inception of the food business, we apply for the food license. Trading in bottled water does not require Fssai license?

FSSAI Act includes all kinds of sealed water business, even when you are selling or just packaging the water bottles; you have to apply for the FSSAI license. Further, it would depend on the annual turnover and other factors.

Process of Fssai Registration

STEP-1 Checking eligibility.

For obtaining central license, state license or registration certificate, you have to check the eligibility option. After you have checked your eligibility and you are eligible for multiple licenses then you can apply for license individually.

STEP-2 Obtaining documents.

For filing the application one has to collect the common documents required for submitting with the authority.

STEP-3 Submission of form with the authority.

FSSAI registration is initiated by submitting Form (application) to food and safety department. Food business operators can apply for new license or renewing an existing one have to apply through Form B. Self-attested declaration in the specified format should be attached along with the form.

STEP-4 Uploading of documents.

Along with filing the application we have to submit required documents along with it depending on the business of the applicant.

STEP-5 Acceptance of the application by the department.

This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the application date and the fact has to be intimated to the applicant in writing. If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.

Step-6 Display of certificate.

Food business operators should display the certificate of registration at the place of business during business hours.

List of food products to be dealt with, Food safety management system plan, FSSAI Declaration Form, IE Code document issued by DGFT, if applicable
